Privacy Policy

Overview

This policy explains what information Nature Callz collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. We collect only what's needed to run the app, and we don't sell your personal information. If you have questions, contact us at jcandrews2@icloud.com.

Information You Provide

  • Account information: your name, phone number, username, and password, used to create and secure your account.
  • Profile information: your city and profile picture, if you choose to add them.
  • Content you post: restroom ratings, notes, and photos you submit.
  • Reports and support requests: the reason and description you provide when reporting a restroom or another user, submitting a bug report, or requesting to delete your account.
  • Contacts: if you choose to grant access, your device contacts, used only to help you find friends already using the app.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Location: with your permission, we use your device's location to show nearby restrooms on the map. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings.
  • Device and usage data: device identifiers, operating system, app version, and diagnostic information such as crash reports, collected to keep the app secure and working properly.

How We Use Your Information

  • To create and maintain your account and authenticate you.
  • To operate core features, like the restroom map, ratings, and your feed.
  • To help you find and connect with friends on the app.
  • To screen submitted photos and text for content that violates our Terms of Service, including through automated AI moderation.
  • To review and act on reports of content or users, and to respond to support requests and bug reports.
  • To maintain the security of your account and the app, and to prevent fraud and abuse.
  • To understand how the app is used, so we can improve it.

How We Share Your Information

We don't sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who help us run the app, including:

  • Supabase, Expo, Twilio, Mapbox, and Google Maps Platform — for app functionality and infrastructure, including maps and location-based features.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) — for cloud hosting and storage, and for AI-powered content moderation.
  • PostHog — for app analytics, to help us understand usage and improve the app.
  • TestFlight — for pre-release app testing.

These providers are only permitted to use your data to provide services to us. Content you choose to post publicly, like ratings, notes, and photos, is visible to other users of the app.

Your Choices

  • You can edit or delete your profile information and posted content from within the app.
  • You can revoke location or contacts access at any time in your device settings.
  • You can block other users and control who can see your activity in your privacy settings.
  • You can delete your account at any time by going to your Profile, selecting Settings, and tapping Delete Account.
  • You can also reach us at jcandrews2@icloud.com to review, update, or delete the personal information we hold about you.

Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as you have an account with us. When you delete your account, we deactivate and delete your information from our active databases, except where we need to retain it to prevent fraud, troubleshoot problems, assist with investigations, or comply with legal requirements.

Children's Privacy

Nature Callz is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. By using the app, you represent that you're at least 18 years old. If you believe we've collected information from someone under 18, please contact us and we'll delete it.

Your Privacy Rights

If you're a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, or Virginia, applicable state privacy law may give you the following rights, subject to the exceptions and thresholds set by each law:

  • The right to know whether we're processing your personal information.
  • The right to access the personal information we hold about you.
  • The right to correct inaccuracies in your personal information.
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information.
  • The right to obtain a copy of the personal information you previously shared with us.
  • The right to opt out of the processing of your personal information for targeted advertising, sale, or certain profiling — we don't engage in any of these, so there's nothing to opt out of.
  • The right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at jcandrews2@icloud.com. We'll verify your identity using the information already associated with your account before acting on your request, and we'll respond within the time frame required by applicable law. If we decline a request, you may appeal by emailing us at the same address; we'll explain our decision in writing, and if the appeal is denied you may contact your state attorney general.

Categories of information collected. In the preceding twelve months we've collected identifiers (name, phone number, username, email, IP address), account and content information (password, profile photo, ratings, notes, photos, reports), internet or network activity (app usage and diagnostic data), and geolocation data (device location). We have not sold this information, and have not shared it with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Do-Not-Track. Some browsers and devices offer a Do-Not-Track signal. There's no common standard for how sites should respond to it, so we don't currently respond to DNT signals.

California "Shine the Light." California residents may request, once a year and free of charge, information about any personal information we disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes in the prior calendar year. We haven't made any such disclosures, but you're welcome to submit a request to jcandrews2@icloud.com.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you through the app or by other means before the changes take effect. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update.
